A beautiful vintage hand-painted coffee cup and saucer by H & K Tunstall (Hollinshead & Kirkham) in the Viola pattern. This pattern is one of the "Delicious Dozen" patterns made, which was once known as the "poor man's Moorcroft". The backstamp on this particular piece was used between 1932 and 1942. They are in excellent condition, having no repairs, chips, cracks or stains. There is minor crazing (to the saucer only), which is typical for pieces of this age. There is no crazing to the coffee cup. The only point to mention is a small piece of clay that has stuck to the rim of the saucer. I do not believe this to be a chip. This can be felt rather than seen (see photo). This would have happened at the time of manufacture. The colours are bright and clear and this cup and saucer display brilliantly. (Please excuse the white marks - these are only light reflections) Dimensions - cup - 5.5 cms high, 6.75 cms rim to edge of handle, 5 cms rim dia. - saucer - 10.5 cms dia.
