Crown Devon Rural Lustrine Butterflies Vases (Pair)

Crown Devon launched it's Lustrine range in 1917 and the Rural and Sylvan ranges were introduced in 1924 at the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley.  These two patterns generated considerable interest and had handpainted butterflies applied to a rich maroon ground (Sylvan) or a blue ground (Rural) relieved by a network of gilding.

A beautiful pair of vases by Crown Devon in the Rural Butterflies pattern.  The backstamp on these particular pieces was used between 1917 and 1930.

They are in excellent condition, having no repairs, chips, cracks or stains, but have minor crazing (to the base only) which is usual for pieces of this age.  There is minor wear to the gold trim on the rim.  The lustrine finish is in excellent condition and shows very little signs of wear.  These vases display exceptionally well and the colours are more vibrant than would seem in the photos, but lustrine is extremely hard to photograph.
